Wayawupuy

Wayawupuy is the primary Maŋgalili homeland, located on a stretch of river just inland from Blue Mud Bay. The rock Dhukururru cuts the flow of the river and is traditionally where the ancestral bathi (dillybag) paused before journeying on to the sea. The land is enclosed by barrukal (paperbark trees) and the yoku plant. The patterns of the water and the plant life at Wayawupuy are visible in the Maŋgalili miny’tji.
